Namaste. My name is Trish Flynn and I'm a Yin and Hatha Yoga Teacher based on Sydney's Lower North Shore. Whilst I am passionate about Yoga, my first love is dancing and I began a professional dance career in my late teens and danced professionally in Europe with the Monte-Carlo Opera Company where I performed for Princess Grace on many occasions. Upon moving to South East Asia, I opened my own ballet school in both Indonesia and Singapore, and also began teaching fitness and aerobics. When I returned to Sydney in the mid 80's, I attained my Level 2 Gymnastics coaching status and focused on the development and training of Elite Gymnastics for 13 years. It wasn't until I became pregnant with my first daughter 24 years ago, that my yoga journey began. During my pregnancy, Yoga allowed me to experience the same joy as dancing but with less impact on my body...and the rest they say is Yoga history!
I continued to practice different types of Yoga over the next few years and throughout another pregnancy but it wasn't until my Yoga teacher, Muriel Corcoran approached me that I considered teaching. I am eternally grateful to Muriel for being such an amazing teacher and encouraging me to follow in her Yogic path. In 2004, I completed my Yoga teacher training at Samadhi Yoga (now Jivamukti Yoga) and enjoyed the all-embracing style of Katie Spears' training program and began teaching Hatha Yoga shortly after.
My love for Yin Yoga grew after studying at an Intensive Yin workshop with Sarah Powers in 2006. Through continual study with Sarah, in 2013 I completed my Yin Insight Teacher Training and am continuing to study the books, dvds and ongoing developments of Yin Yoga with Paul Grilley as well as with Bernie Clark.
Today, I teach both Hatha and Yin Yoga as they are a wonderful complement to each other - Yin beacuse it's so adapable for everyone and Hatha because of the muscular strengthening. You can read more about both styles on my 'about yoga' page.
I enjoy working with a variety of clients ranging in ages from school students to the elderly and fitness levels as well as pregnant women. However, I have a particular interest improving the quality of life of those who have chronic illness or health and physical limitations. I also continue to support professional sports teams, working to minimize their injuries and manage their stress in a professional performance driven environment.
Yoga is more than just a physical exercise program. It has taught me to be "present" and "accepting" of who I am and where I am and it is my goal to pass this on to my students. To empower and educate along with teaching safe practices during a class is important to me to allow my students to live a happier life with peace and calm.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude and thanks to Natasha Storch for her time and effort into putting this website together along with Jacques Capati for taking all the wonderful photographs and my darling husband for letting me display his beautiful paintings on the site (along with his patience!).
